<b><span lang="EN-US" style="font-family: "times new roman" , "serif"; font-size: 20.0pt; line-height: 200%;">Indonesian students

<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 200%; text-indent: .5in;">
<span lang="EN-US" style="font-family: "times new roman" , "serif"; font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 200%;">Mahatma
Gandhi once said that one of seven serious mistakes in education is “Education
without character”. It means that character is important in education aspect
and also in many aspects of life. Do you remember what Indonesian characters? Actually,
Indonesian characters depend on Pancasila which is the identity of Indonesian. For
example, in the past all Indonesian people were united to liberate this
country. They did big effort together for one goal—the independence of
Indonesia—by fighting the Dutch with all their strengths. However, now, it seems
that our characters are lost one by one especially among Indonesian student who
are the determinant of Indonesian fate in the future. If they don’t have any of
these Indonesian characters anymore it will be very dangerous for Indonesia’s future.
That’s why <b>students in Indonesia need character education</b>.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 200%; text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 200%; text-align: justify; text-indent: 35.45pt; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">
<span lang="EN-US" style="font-family: "times new roman" , "serif"; font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 200%;">One of Indonesian
Character that must be revived is teamwork value. Most of Indonesian student
don’t really like to do some teamwork for example some of my friends prefer to
do group work individually. They think that by doing things alone is faster
than discuss it first with other friends. Actually, it is good to do our work
by ourselves or individually but if we don’t pay attention for <span style="background-color: white; background-position: initial initial; background-repeat: initial initial;">surroundings—a place where we should
communicate</span> and do a social relation—it will make us excluded from the
society. Another example is student’s brawls which happen in many places like
Yogyakarta, Tanggerang, Bekasi, Denpasar, and Depok, especially in Jakarta. For
instance, on 14th of May 2012, students of UKI and YAI College
brawled near RSCM on Jalan Dipenogoro. They brawled in the middle of the night
only because of a motorcycle and revenge other students, and it happened for
several times. Another reason why Indonesian student lost their teamwork value
is gadget addiction. It makes them forget to live in the real life and
communicate with other people. So, what is teamwork? According to </span><span lang="EN-US"><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Merriam-Webster" title="Merriam-Webster"><span style="font-family: "times new roman" , "serif"; font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 200%;">Merriam-Webster</span></a></span><span lang="EN-US" style="font-family: "times new roman" , "serif"; font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 200%;">
dictionary, the definition of teamwork is, “a work that done <i>by several associates with each doing a part
but all subordinating personal prominence to the efficiency of the whole</i>”. From
what the student did, they don’t show any teamwork elements. It means they
don’t have any teamwork value anymore. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 200%; text-align: justify; text-indent: 35.45pt; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">
<span lang="EN-US" style="font-family: "times new roman" , "serif"; font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 200%;">The second value that
must be revived is hardworking value. Do you remember how was Indonesian hero fighting
for this country? They did many ways, such as Bandung’s people did a
breakthrough in Bandung Lautan Api tragedy. They decided to demolished and left
Bandung together. Similarly, many people in Surabaya fought for their area on
10 November 1945 by ripped the Dutch’s flag and some even fought. It’s very
different from the situation right now. Most of people prefer to have an easy
game today. They don’t like to have a complicated one. Maybe it is because of
the changing of time. For example, in the past many students went to the
library to do their homework but now they just have to search in the internet
and copy some articles then collect it to their teacher. Some of them choose to
copy their homework from other students instantly—they don’t check the work
first but they just copy it as fast as they can because usually they do that
thing in the last minute. Moreover, the development of technology also causes
them to be a slacker and finally they do a plagiarism. In other words, because
of technology, Indonesian students like to have an instant process. Therefore Indonesian student need to revived
the hardworking value as soon as possible, to rebuild their character before
this country become poorer. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 200%; text-align: justify; text-indent: 35.45pt; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 200%; text-align: justify; text-indent: 35.45pt; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">
<span lang="EN-US" style="font-family: "times new roman" , "serif"; font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 200%;">The last is good
manner. This value should be revived
too. In the past Indonesian people were famed by their good attitudes internationally.
We were sympathetic, kindhearted, and care. However, now these good manners cannot
be found in Indonesian students any more. They respect their friends more than
their parents. This condition is possible maybe because they choose a bad
person as their friend who introduces them to negative things. For instance,
when I was in Junior high school, my friend was very kind and respectful. One
day, he met my another friend who was very naughty, consequently he became a
naughty person too. Another example is my classmate; he likes to penetrate from
the classroom when the teacher explaining a subject. He doesn’t like to listen
to what the other tell when he acts like that. The teacher feels annoyed with
his habit until the teacher reproves him but he answer back impolitely. It
means he does not respect the teacher. If this happens continuously without any
warnings from the teacher, he will not only get a punishment from the teacher
but also be ignored by his classmates. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 200%; text-indent: 35.45pt;">
<span lang="EN-US" style="font-family: "times new roman" , "serif"; font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 200%;">To
conclude, character education is very important for Indonesian students because
it can revive some values of Indonesian characters that have lost from their
personality. The students are willing to work together with their friends and
become an Indonesian student who can do a big effort with a good manner to
their family, friends, and society. Therefore, good characters are very
important to be owned by all of Indonesian students and it will create a better
young generation for Indonesia in the future.</span><br />
